Teen dies hours after friends, neighbors pull him from pool | News
NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS)- An 18-year-old who was just two days away from his 19th birthday drowned in Newberry County pool, according to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office.
Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton identified the victim as LaQuan Andre Parker, Jr. of Pomaria.
Sheriff Lee Foster says the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at a house off of Highway 34 near Newberry.
Friends and neighbors rescued Parker from the pool after he went under and did not resurface, Foster said.
EMS transported Parker to the Newberry Hospital where he was revived and stabilized. He was then taken to a hospital in Greenville, where he died shortly before midnight, the sheriff said.
Foster said it is believed Parker knew how to swim.
"Anytime there is a situation where there is a loss of life it's traumatic, however when it's a young life full of promise, it's that much more tragic," said Sheriff Foster in a statement. "Our prayers are with the family of this young man and his family. This is will difficult for his friends who were there and for the entire community in the days ahead."
